Abstract

Studies indicate an interrelationship between trifurcated coronary arteries and events such as atherosclerosis and ischemia. Trifurcation of the left coronary artery (LCA) represents an anatomical variation present in approximately 20% of the population and may be associated with an increased risk of ischemic events, due to changes in blood flow, due to the morphology of the vessels. This study aims to investigate the relationship between the presence of a third vessel in ACE, atherosclerosis and ischemic events. This is a systematic literature review, carried out in the PubMed and Science Direct databases, in the English language, between the years 2019 and 2024. After the selection process, four studies were selected. Studies have shown that morphological characteristics, such as geometric factors, such as angulation and curvature of the ACE branches, have a greater impact on the progression of atherosclerosis and ischemic events than the trifurcation itself. Highlighting the importance of considering anatomical and hemodynamic characteristics in the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular diseases.
