Oral health of patients admitted to the intensive care unit of the General Hospital of Cuiabá-MT

The objective of this study was to evaluate the oral health of patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the General Hospital in 2021, assisted by the Dentistry team of the Multiprofessional Residence. Eighty-two medical records were evaluated, collecting data described as: oral hygiene, presence of biofilm, oropharyngeal secretion, infection foci, and others. Thus, obtaining knowledge about the main disorders that affect the oral cavity of systemically compromised patients in an intensive care unit, contributing to the correct diagnosis and treatment, and establishment of future actions for the promotion and prevention of oral health in the hospitalized population. As a result, it was possible to observe with superiority the partial dentate and total edentulous patients, in relation to the dental condition, integrity of the mucosa, lips and tongue: the presence of residual root, accumulation of bacterial plaque and dental calculus were present in the majority, fissure, ulcer and whitish plaque on mucosa and lips, lingual coating, ulcer and whitish papillae.
